Nia looked at the horse and smiled even wider, he was beautiful, she wanted to pet him, she decided not to get to close at least before she knew how he'd react, she watched how Jean acted with the horse, she thought it was adorable, she was so attentive to him, they truly where close, she looked at jean again and smiled she truly was cute.
She was shocked the Jean wanted her to help with Tommy, she nodded happily "Yeah sure, you mean I can really help with him." she said her eye's bright with joy. She was so happy that she got to help with Tommy she smiled and walked over to where Jean was standing petting the Stalin on the muzzle

[/IMG] Why do you ride for your money Tell me why do you rope for short pay You ain't a'gettin' nowhere And you're loosin' your share you must have gone crazy out there * * * * * * * * Jean felt her smile grow brightly, “Yes, of course you can!” she said smiling as she pat at her horse’s side. “I’ll show you where the tack room is, so when you get to working here, you’ll know where everything is.” She said, turning to lead her back in the stable, her horse watching after them with a soft nicker, wanting to join. “After all, everything here has an exact place, if you get it wrong, people freak out.” She informed her.
Leading her down the long hallway, that turned and branched every so often to compensate the many horses that lived within its walls. As they entered the large room she looked around, “the feed room attaches to this and on the other side of the hall is the muck out area. Here though, everything is carefully placed. Everything is labeled for each horse that uses it, since certain horses use certain things and you don’t want to just use a generic item. Like Revion, one of the older horses here, he can only have a thick saddle blanket with a rubber pad underneath, so the saddle doesn’t fall off or hurt him.” She said, before she realized she was rambling and shut up almost immediately.
Leading her down a bit to some nicely polished items, all neatly put in their respected places, she nodded as she picked up a red box “This is all for Tommy, saddle, blanket, fly sheet, winter coat, boots, wraps, everything. This box is his grooming kit.” She said as she tapped it with a smile. Turning she ushered to return to the yard, for the grooming.
As they returned, Tommy nickered again, bouncing on his feet, glad for Jean’s return. She smiled brightly at him, leaning forward to press her lips to his muzzle that he held out to her, and cooed softly to him as she set the kit down. Opening it up she pulled out two brushes and held out to Nia.

Nia followed Jean threw the halls, she didn't know how she was going to remember where everything goes, and what is for what horse, she looked at the walls worryingly scared that she will eventually screw it up. When she walked into Tommy's room she looked around there was so much in here, and it all had its place, she knew that Jean will have to help her remember it all.
They returned to Tommy who was happy that Jean had come back. Nia watched them for a moment, she thought it was interesting on how they acted with each other. When Jean handed her the brush for Tommy, she didn't know if there was any special way to brush him so she stood there looking at the brush in her hand, slowly she moved towards Tommy and petted the side of his face, she loved being able to be so close to a horse, she let her hand trail down his neck, she didn't know what she should do, so she just started to brush his neck with the brush in her hand. She thought she was doing okay, Tommy didn't look like he didn't like what she was doing. She kept brushing him that way, hoping it was right.
Feeling a little self conscience that she was doing it wrong she look to Jean and gave her a 'am I doing it right' look. She hoped that she was doing it right, she didn't want to be a pain for Jean, she already felt bad that she had to watch her the hole time she was here.

[/IMG] Why do you ride for your money Tell me why do you rope for short pay You ain't a'gettin' nowhere And you're loosin' your share you must have gone crazy out there * * * * * * * * She held a soft brush in her own hand, one made just for the face so it wouldn’t irritate the sensitive spots the large mammal possessed. As Tommy thrust his head into her stomach, expectantly, wanting her to brush his ears first, she giggled and, since her hands were full of his head and the brush, she buried her mouth into his mane as she shook her head. “Silly boy.” She said as she began to brush his ears, getting the dust from him rolling the previous night, out.
Noticing the other looking to her for some sort of direction, she blinked and walked to stand beside her. “Like this,” she said, grabbing her hand with the brush, and showing her how to brush him and how firm to do it. “Make sure to go with the hair, instead of against it. It won’t irritate him if you do, but he’ll lose a lot of his fur, and that’s not good for him.” She informed her before letting go of her hand.
“He’s tall, so you might have a bit of trouble with getting his entire body, I know I do, but he is trained to help you with that.” She said to her as she walked to her left side, closest to his head and lifted her foot. Tapping it against the back of his left front leg, Tommy began to move, and lowered himself down. He looked much like a show horse would, bowing to the crowd, with one leg out, the other leg tucked under him, and bowing down carefully.
“When you are done with him like this, just tap his stomach and he’ll stand right back up again.” She said as she showed Nia, the horse standing right back up again. With a nod, she walked back to continue cleaning off his face. When she was done with that, she tossed the brush back into the box and got a comb for his hair and set to work on that.

Nia blushed as Jean took her hand, she watched how to brush him, she was glad that she wasn't going to hurt Tommy. She kept brushing the way Jean taught her as she showed her how to fully brush Tommy. When the horse bowed she backed up a bit at first, not seeing what he was doing. She smiled at how smart Tommy was and how cool the little trick was, she was determined to remember how to make him do that.
She looked at jean and smiled, "Thank you for helping me with all of this, it must suck having to take care of me." She said sighing. She hated the fact she had to have someone look after her, but mostly she felt sorry for Jean, she had to deal with her for two months. She walked around to the other side of Tommy and continued to brush him, now standing next to her.
She then brushed Tommy, trying not to talk, she didn't know what to talk about, maybe she should just ask the basics. She bit her lip and thought of what questions would be wrong to ask. After a few moments she decided on at least one question, "How old are you anyway?" She said hoping it would not offend her, she just wanted to know if they where close in age.

[/IMG] Why do you ride for your money Tell me why do you rope for short pay You ain't a'gettin' nowhere And you're loosin' your share you must have gone crazy out there * * * * * * * * The hair in her hand, long and pure black, was going from ratty with a little bit of straw tangled in its tresses, to silky smooth, and shimmering every time the horse moved slightly. She always took a long time in trying to make him presentable, even if she wasn’t doing anything more than putting him out in the pasture, or maybe ride him a little bit. He was her baby after all. Practically her son. She always took such pride in him, since she had no help in raising him.
She would have refused the help anyway, had anyone offered it. He had been her project, her duty, she was not about to let someone else take that from her. When he got of age, and actually healthier than he was when he was a baby, he had surprised many people on the farm, including the owner. This had caused for some fights for a while too, since the owner had wanted the horse back, and wanted to use him for shows and money and what not. However, after the fights that not only Jean put up but the horse itself, he gave up.
No one was to come between them.
Blinking, she looked up from the mane she was almost done working on, and caught just the end of what she was being asked. It took her a moment to register the question before she looked the girl over. “I’m nineteen.” She said nonchalantly as she moved from the now finished and smooth mane to the tail. “What about you?” she asked, glancing up for a moment to lock her green eyes with Nia’s blue ones.
Nia had pretty eyes too. It must be a thing for city kids. They had one or two people who would travel in from the city a long ways off to take lessons there, since their farm was known for their lessons and rodeo that most students were usually in. She found that most of those people were good looking too. She had even dated a boy from the city once. Though she found out later he was a jerk, she thought he was quite handsome. It was almost unfair.
Of course, she couldn’t rightly judge the people on the farm for beauty though, since everyone was older than her by far. The couple of people who came from other farms for the rodeos, some of them were alright, but none of them were ever quite as good looking as those from the city. It was like; there they had something that made them that much more. She couldn’t really describe it.
She wasn’t complaining though, she hadn’t been looking for a relationship anyway. Relationships were a distraction from her work, and her horse, so she could do without. Not to mention, she thought that she, herself, was fairly pretty, and that’s all that mattered right?
As she drew her eyes away from Nia’s, the thoughts she had been thinking of people’s beauty causing her to blush slightly, she continued to comb through the long tangled tail. She needed to concentrate.

Nia smiled at Jean "I'm eighteen." she was happy that she really did have someone close to her age here, for a change, this girl wasn't like the other girls around her age in the city, Jean was nice and sweet and real, and the girls from the city were mean, snotty and fake, she to was fake, but that's what she did to fit in a group, sadly she found her friends and changed so they would like her.
Her eye's where caught with Jeans, her eye's were beautiful, they stared for a long time at each other, then all of a sudden, Jean looked away, she could see her blushing slightly, and was wondering what she was thinking about, sighing she looked at Jean again and smiled, she had so many other questions, but she didn't know what other ones she should ask. She looked at the ground, still brushing Tommy absentmindedly, trying to think of the right questions to ask her.
She finally came up with a question that she hoped wouldn't come off as creepy. "Are you single?" she said in a small voice blushing slightly, "I-I didn't mean that to be creepy or anything, I just wanted to kno-" She said mumbling the words, so much so that the last part became unlegible. She felt stupid for asking that, she didn't know how she would react to the question. She closed her eyes slightly waiting for Jean to respond.

[/IMG] Why do you ride for your money Tell me why do you rope for short pay You ain't a'gettin' nowhere And you're loosin' your share you must have gone crazy out there * * * * * * * * She nodded at the response of age. So they were close to the same age, which was good. She had made a good choice in wanting to show her the ropes instead of Elliot. From the looks of how things were going, they were going to be good friends. She had her doubts they would be, since her father had told her all these things that her mother said she did. So it was a bit worrisome at first, but it seemed to be working out.
When she became flustered about asking if she was single, Jean giggled, covering her mouth with her hand that held the brush. Shaking her head she smiled “Don’t be sorry, it’s okay.” She said before she continued to brush the tail. “Yes I am single.” She said looking to her, “are you?”
As she finished with the tail, she let it hang beautifully behind him, deciding not to braid it or anything, and moved to get the hoof pick, moving right along with her horse’s care. She was so used to all this that it took her hardly any time to have him looking pristine. She was taking a bit longer today though, so Nia could also help her, and feel comfortable around the massive creature. It also allowed them the chance to bond.
“I’d imagine you do, someone waiting for you back in the big city. What’s it like there?” she ventured to ask, curious since the biggest city she had been to was still quite tiny.

Nia blushed more when Jean giggled, she couldn't look at her still, she stood there for a while and answered, "No, I'm single." she said sighing, she wants to have someone, but no one likes her. Prob because of the people she hangs out with and that she wont talk to a lot of guys, they where just idiots in the city, so she avoided them, and as for girls, she would never tell anyone about that, so there is no chance she would go out with one.
"And the city is okay I guess, its easy to fall into a bad crowd and get your self in trouble, aka what happened to me." she said jestering to herself with her free hand. "As for how its like, I guess its good, its loud and there is a lot to do, but no, I have no one waiting for me, my friends prob wont even care if I never came back, they never really liked me anyways." she said in a sad voice, it did suck that her so called friends wouldn't mind if she stopped hanging around with them, they never liked her, she only changed herself to hope they would even start to like her.

[/IMG] Why do you ride for your money Tell me why do you rope for short pay You ain't a'gettin' nowhere And you're loosin' your share you must have gone crazy out there * * * * * * * * The city wasn’t that great? That’s what she said about it at least. Really? She couldn’t quite see how it could be all that bad, but she knew best than to argue that fact, since she wasn’t the one who dealt with the life in the city all the time. Out in her little part of the world, everything was much quieter –unless the rodeo was happening- and so she never really had to deal with all that.
Not to mention, out there, people could be themselves. No one was around to judge them. The animals never judged, and the people who spent time with them were pretty much just like one another, so there was no need to be fake around them. So she loved it. People out there could find reasons to be happy without drugs, without alcohol, without anything but themselves.
This was her version of heaven.
As she finished picking out the muck from Tommy’s hooves, she sprayed him carefully with a light layer of fly repellant on him before taking a step back to look him over with a smile and nod of approval. He looked great. His coat shone, his mane and tail were smooth and dancing in the light breeze that had picked up, and he looked happy. Tossing everything back into the container it came in, she looked over to Nia as she untied Tommy. “Well, now you’re out here, and you can change all that and become better.” She said, hoping that it didn’t sound rude to say that to her.
Muttering a soft, ‘excuse me’ she walked her horse to the pasture he normally resided in, and unclipped his lead rope, to let him go. He took off at a canter into the pen and kicked his heels a few times, glad to be able to run about and stretch. He then took off in a circle around the pen as fast as he could, blowing by her, before he slowed and, with a whinny, took to grazing comfortable. Smiling, Jean locked the gate and moved to return to the barn so she could put the things away. She could see in the distance a thick pack of dark storm clouds heading their way, and it caused her to falter. She hated storms.
Clearing her throat, trying to push the thought from her head, she returned to Nia and guided her back into the tack room, where she put the stuff away with a soft “So what would you like to do?”

Nia smiled at the comment of changing, she knew she would, she could feel it, but even more so, she will go back to her rebellious self once she is back, she could just feel it. "mhmm." she said as Jean let Tommy out. She watched the horse, and could tell he was happy that he was able to run for a bit. She smiled at them, Jean was like his mother, taking care of him and making sure he has what he needs.
When Jean walked back to her she smiled leaning against the wall. What did she like to do, well she wanted to get to know the place better then she did, find out where to hang out, and where to get away for a while. "Well I was hoping that we could go and rest for a minute, do you have any place where we could just be alone, or something." She said looking out at the field, she wanted to be outside still, but she wanted to just get away and be alone with Jean for a bit, away from animals and people alike.
She thought of how nice it was out here, how fresh everything seemed, she actually never wanted to go back to her crowded city at this moment. She looked to the sky and saw the clouds rolling in, she knew there was going to be a storm, she liked the rain and thunderstorms where beautiful and loud, it was one of the only things that could drown out the city's noise. She closed her eyes and sighed, she then snapped out of her daze and came back onto what really was going on. She looked towards Jean and waited for her to respond.

[/IMG] Why do you ride for your money Tell me why do you rope for short pay You ain't a'gettin' nowhere And you're loosin' your share you must have gone crazy out there * * * * * * * * Jean looked at her for a moment, curious about what she wanted to go somewhere quiet for, but didn’t dare argue, as she nodded, “Yes, there’s a small lake on the property,” she said as she ushered in the general direction with a tilt of her head. “I can take you over there if you like, not many people go there, and if you know how to get there, it’d be a nice place to go if you need to get away for a while.” She commented before turning to lead her out of the barn.
“Though, if you didn’t know where it was, you would be walking for hours and never find it, get lost, and lord would only know what would happen after that.” She said before she smiled, looking over her shoulder at her. “The property is quite large after all, and what we don’t own is owned by the county, so even after you get off the property, it’s not like you’ll stumble into a city for quite some time.”
She lead her out, pointing out a few things as they passed that would help her find the lake if she wished to find it again. Like, to the left of Burt’s pen, walk fifty paces, there will be a small pile of rocks, that covered an old well that is no longer in use. From the rocks turn left, away from the road, and walk till you reach the clump of about five trees a hundred or so paces from the rocks. From there you can see the lake diagonally right from there, about thirty paces away.
It was far enough that you couldn’t see the barn, but it was there. If you tried going right diagonally back where most thought the barn was, you’d still be far enough off, that you would miss it. She knew this from experience. Since that time, she stuck to the path she knew.
As they arrived, Jeanette smiled at Nia before walking over to the water, and took off her boots so she could stick her feet in the cool water.

Nia smiled when Jean mentioned a pond that no one knew about, she knew this would be her get away. She followed Jean as they walked trying to remember the hole way here, she didn't want to get lost, and out here, it would be easy, she knew that she would have to asked Jean to show her this path a few more times before she would remember it.
As they neared the pond she gasped, it was beautiful, she knew this was going to be a defedent hideaway when she needed it. She in hailed deeply and joined Jean by the pond, she slipped off her shoes and put her feet in. It felt nice on her feet, she closed her eye's and tilted her head to the sky, basking in the little light there was.
Suddenly she realized that Jean was there, she had totally forgot about her. Nia dropped her head and opened her eye's again. "Its beautiful," she said in a whispery voice. After a short time she thought that Jean was probably wondering why she wanted to be somewhere by them selves, "You know, the reson I wanted a quiet place is that sometimes its nice to escape, and I knew that you would know a place, I had a quite place in the city, but it wasn't really quite, it was at a abandoned park that kids wouldn't play on." she said remembering how much time she sat there and wished to get away from things. ""I hope it wasn't weird that I wanted to be out here by our selves, I-I -" she cut herself off before she said something stupid. she dropped her gaze and blushed.

[/IMG] Why do you ride for your money Tell me why do you rope for short pay You ain't a'gettin' nowhere And you're loosin' your share you must have gone crazy out there * * * * * * * * At the other girl’s rambling and flustered-ness, Jean found herself laughing, full out. She covered her hand with her mouth and tried to calm down her laughter, as she clenched her eyes shut, causing her nose to wrinkle as she did so. She wasn’t quite sure why she was laughing about it, she just thought it was funny.
“I’m sorry,” she said in between her laughter and nodded “I’m sorry.”
As she calmed down, she looked to her and smiled brightly, “You don’t need to get so worked up about things like that, it’s perfectly fine to want to get away, and to want to find places like this. I understand, so stop apologizing.” She informed her as she brushed the hair from her face before standing up in the shallow part of the water.
“Besides,” she began, as she walked around the water, enjoying it on her legs “If there is any place to be open and yourself, it’s here. Hillshire is the best place for that, and then add the pond on top of it, you are at a place you can call home.” She said with a nod, looking to her.
“This place is my idea of heaven. Not that, what did you call it? Abandoned park? That’s just an escape.” She said smiling brightly.

Nia blushed and smiled. She knew it was silly to apologize so much but she didn't want to offend Jean, especially with such a short time knowing her. She knew her little park was a escape, but in the city it is her heaven, it's the only place that no one would judge her and where no one would want something out of her.
"It's my heaven, but its shit compared to this." she said closing her eye's once more to bask in the even more so dull sunlight. She smiled to herself, she didn't know why, but the thought of comparing her little heaven to this was funny, her place looked like a nightmare compared to what this all was.
She stood up and walked deeper into the pond, she like how the cold water felt. She turned and looked at Jean and smiled. "Thank you again for showing me this place." She sighed and fought a temptation to dive into the water and swim around.
A few minutes later Nia thought of another question to ask her, but she wouldn't dare say it out loud. She closed her eye's to clear her head, sadly all the stress today had gave he a huge migraine. She rubbed her temples gingerly clenching her eye's when doing so.
A second later she wondered if Jean had any other things that she wanted to know about her. "So, any other things that you want to know about me, I'll be happy to answer them." she said smiling at her wildly.
